White Mountain Creamery. The amazing, local, super legendary ice cream place, closest to Boston College. The actual ice cream is delicious, especially (my fav) chocolate. The staff are young and super friendly, and the whole feeling of this local ice cream parlor is super. There are freezers where you can buy pints / quarts of their ice cream as well as seating indoor & outdoor. Definitely one of the best ice cream places in Chestnut Hill, and in Newton in general. Located on Route 30, right near Boston College & the Boston city line (Brighton). Highly suggested.

Had a great selection of favors. Main reasoning for the1 star rating was the customer service. The brunette girl that works here is MISERABLE. She looked at me, pretty much rolled her eyes and said " do you know what you want? " in the most annoyed voice. HI I just walked in, give me 3 seconds to read the menu ya grump! I felt uncomfortable after 3 seconds in she repeated herself. So I ordered. She walked over to the register and said "that's it right?" I said "yea for me" and then pointed to my boyfriend that was standing with me and asked if he knew what he wanted. Before he could get a word out she walked away and started helping another customer. Customer service is everything. You don't need to do a cartwheel when people walk in the door, but maybe being somewhat of a decent human being would get you pretty far. Clearly Tuesday September 1st this employee should've stayed home.

First and foremost, the ice cream here is delicious - actually some of the best I've ever had, and I grew up in Vermont - we know how to do ice cream up there in cow country! To address why I gave 4 stars and not 5 stars... The girls working here do not wear rubber gloves. Especially when making certain items such at an ice cream cookie sandwich. I will add that the first time I had the cookie sandwich it was fantastic as well as the second time. I believe this was because the older gentleman who works here (whom I believe is the manager and an absolute sweetheart I may add) was there and he made sure they did it right. However I was less than impressed when I stopped in today. I bought a couple of them before I headed on my way up north to visit my sister and newborn nephew in the hospital. I knew she would appreciate such a delicious treat! We got to the car to put them in the insulated lunch box (stuffed with ice and ice packs as to make sure they wouldn't melt) and there was more ice cream wrapped in the Saran Wrap than there was in between the actual cookies. I have seen them make them before so I get it - the ice cream sticks to the scoop and its sometimes difficult to get in on the cookie but because they don't wear gloves they are trying so hard carefully hold the cookie while not dropping the ice cream on the floor that once they get it off the scoop it just stays plopped wherever they got it to stay. I hope someone can understand why I would be upset, considering the circumstances. I also think it would definitely be more hygienic if they wore gloves...and to be honest I thought that was a thing when you were working with food. Overall great ice cream and friendly staff just wear some gloves ladies and try to get the ice cream in the cookies not in the Saran Wrap!

The best ice cream not just on campus, but in all of Boston! The coffee oreo and cookie monster are my fave, although the black raspberry is equally amazing, and the cookie dough ice cream cakes are a must for every birthday!
(5)Zach R.
High quality ice cream! Nice little store with homemade ice cream in Boston. The whipped cream is very good and a great assortment of flavored.
(5)Laura D.
As a BC alum, white mountain is an ice cream staple! I've been here countless times with friends when a craving hits. Really good for small groups. They have a pretty expansive menu of ice cream flavors, although I really wish they would add a chocolate-based hard frozen yogurt. (Ideally chocolate fudge brownie--hint hint!) I usually go with vanilla hard frozen yogurt and add cookie dough on top. They are very heavy-handed with toppings, which is much appreciated! :) The place is somewhat small but it's really fun. There are some board games but they really need to be updated, most are in various stages of decay... The free water is a nice tough as well, and their mini cakes (serve 1-2) are totally adorable and great for birthdays/special occasions. Also, the staff (mainly students) are really nice!

COOKIE MONSTER CHANGED MY WORLD AND ICE CREAM TASTE BUDS. this place rocks. The ice cream is made in-house, fresh, and delicious. They also offer a few Richardson's flavors, which is fine because it's all quality ice cream. The place is clean and open, which makes it popular for student groups to gather after meetings or to socialize. There's a good amount of seating available, as well as board games. I love when places have board games, and it seems like a quirky feature that suburbs have the clear advantage over cities. In this case, White Mountain fits the bill, catering to BC students and residents around the area. You can buy the flavors by the quart (my roommates and I regularly buy Cookie Monster and consume the whole thing in one sitting--there are 6 of us, but still). They also make lovely cakes in different sizes, the smallest being an "individual" one that could feed about 1 talented ice cream eater, 2-3 ambitious people, and 5-6 people with strong will power. They are kept in a display fridge that only employees have access to and will help you choose. The flavor list is great--offering a good number of hard froyo flavors as well as soft-serve and soft froyo (including peanut butter). They have "healthier" options such as greek yogurt cups, sorbet, and lighter full-flavor ice creams like purple cow (black raspberry ice cream with white chocolate chips). There's a full selection of toppings, milkshakes (in New England they call them frappes), and sundae specials as well. There's no public restroom, but they're located next to a Dunkin. They also provide free water from a gallon-sized filter. Great place.
(4)Emily E.
Best icecream in the area! So many flavors and they have frozen yogurt as well. Service is always quick and friendly. The waffle cone bowls are amazing and they are generous with toppings. My only complaint is that its definitely on the pricey side !!!
(4)R Y.
Who doesn't love ice cream!? I would recommend their hard frozen yogurts. They are delicious and taste just like ice cream but are a "healthier" option because it's frozen yogurt. I may just be making that up. Either way, this place will not ever disappoint.
(5)Hazel Y.
The workers are always friendly. There does seem to be a little discrepancy on how much ice cream they scoop for you (sometimes a small is huge and sometimes it really is literally a tiny two scoops, but it rarely is on the tiny portion size, it does happen at times though) I know a ton of people cant stay away from the cookie monster but i would recommend the PURPLE COW ICE CREAM for those who want a lighter yogurt ice cream adventurous flavor. I keep coming back for that and the jamaican rum as i dont like the thick and really sweet taste of the cookie monster.
(5)Jen S.
I can't believe I've lived here for over 10 years and never knew about this place! Sometimes I just crave good ice cream really late at night. Many of the other nearby places close at 10 or 11pm. But White Mountain stays open until midnight! So get your fix here. It's recently especially my favorite because it blew my mind when it mixed together my favorite flavor with my boyfriend's favorite flavor. Now we don't have to decide between cookie dough OR oreo ice cream... we can get BOTH! Introducing the COOKIE MONSTER!! I loved it so much. Only thing is obviously there will be tons of BC students coming in and out and if you're enjoying your ice cream there, they're gonna be loud and rowdy. There may also be a long line of them but it moved pretty fast. Can't wait to have it again soon.
(4)Janelle G.
Still love love love this place! Returned and my friend for the black raspberry chip and I got the Cookie Monster. Great to sit in and eat or takeout. Also, have purchased the delicious ice cream cakes for birthday celebrations. Highly recommended. Excellent service on this last visit!
(5)Nick M.
I just had a sundae there today, and man, their whipped cream is wayyyy too thick/heavy. It's not appetizing. Also their hot fudge is not good anymore either, not a good consistency and it's extremely heavy too, almost the consistency of molasses. I am a glutton for a good sundae but I've been let down here twice, the first time I wrote the whipped cream off to a bad day but it seems it is the norm there. It has the consistence of sour cream, it's that thick. Not a fan. Their small sundae is enormous, I'm generally all for big portions but their small is like a large at most places. Good luck conserving the rest of your day here, it easily weighed three quarters of a pound to a pound. Hate to say it but I don't think I'll be back there again.
(2)Dan V.
Good ice cream and other treats - nice location close to Boston College.
(4)nathalie n.
It's been over 20 years and this place hasn't changed. I recommend orange sherbet and rum raisin with gummy bears. Classic standy by. The raspberry lime Richie isn't bad either.
(5)Michelle J.
Best ice cream place in the area! I love their cookie dough and mint patty flavors. So creamy and delicious! Even their hard frozen yogurt is amazing and to be honest I can't even taste the difference. They're open until 11-12 depending on the season.
(5)Jennifer L.
the ice cream is thick and so delicious I love the cookie monster :D
(5)Dean B.
My first visit back to BC in 25 years and White Mountain is still there in the same place and never disappoints! Always an awesome tasty experience! I swear it has not changed in at least a quarter century. Im sure it'll be there for all to enjoy for many more! What more can I ask for? I'm def a mix-ins kinda person. But this time I tried and love their orange freeze!
(5)Anne F.
Had a Cookie Monster with Reese's cups on top and wow it was amazing. The cakes looked incredible too.
(5)Monika D.
Although it's not the cheapest ice cream, it's worth it to get this freshly made ice cream. It's located right across from Boston College, so many students from BC work there and come get ice cream. My favorite flavor so far is Peppermint Stick, which is a season flavor. However, they always have lots of flavors that change every so often, so you can never get bored. You can also ask to try their flavors which is helpful. Their mini ice cream cakes (and bigger ones) are a great gift for a birthday or other type of celebration. I definitely recommend trying this place if you're in the area!
(5)J B.
Gross Gross Gross Freezer burned poor tasting ice cream! Don't go there! It's like throwing your money away! They really need to look into updating the place. You can still keep the charm but a refreshing renovation may not hurt!
(1)Gloria C.
this is probably my favorite ice cream spot in boston!!! in addition to having 30 specataular flavors on deck, they have 6 rotating daily specials--i happened to go when some of those included banana peanut butter, strawberry cheesecake, and oreo cake batter!!!! in addition to ice cream, they've got a bunch of soft serve frozen yogurts and ~10 hard yogurts too. bonus--they have a divine hot peanut butter topping and fresh homemade whipped cream!!! super bonus--they have local greek yogurt that you can top off with anything
(5)Al N.
I haven't been to this place almost 30 years since I graduated from college. When I was in Boston recently I got the chance to stop by. The ice cream place is about the same; the ice cream itself, however, is not quite the same, and there's no more ice cream machine in the front of the store. The old days were better, I would say.
(3)Harry H.
I am not a fan of this neighborhood, but I would not miss a chance to return to White Mountain for some of their superb ice cream. The staffer was very friendly and helpful (we were glad it opened @ 11), even if the product put a nice dent in the wallet (@ $11 the provenance and quality justifies it).
(5)Lucy B.
I'll give it two stars because they gave us the ice cream we ordered. It was freezer burned and bad.
(2)Katie B.
Pretty solid ice cream place. What makes White mountain stand out over the BC dining Ice cream or even the JP licks in Newton Centre is the homey vibe and friendly service. A nice assortment of flavors. Also, there is a $1 off coupon in one of the coupon books distributed in the area!
(4)Patrick D.
I've been here a number of times and every single time I go it just gets better and better. The hot fudge is legendary, the whipped cream is even better (it's like if more ice cream were a topping). On my most recent trip, I decided to give it the ultimate test: chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. Bare bones. No excess toppings or mix-ins to hide behind. This was pure ice cream. And I dare say it passed the test with flying colors. Creamy, consistent, perfect portion (I got a small) and the flavoring was perfect, not a fake-tasting chocolate like at the big chains. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, as well, and the only thing better than the food was the service. My server (Shea) was very well-trained, friendly, and prepared my order in a timely fashion, and even recommended similar flavors for my next visit. I'll continue coming back here for the fantastic ice cream, friendly neighborhood vibe and outstanding service.
(5)Deanna S.
best coffee Oreo ice cream ever! parking can be tough but worth it. Prices are reasonable
(5)Ramona Q.
After more and more White Mountain trips, I have to say . . . it is the best ice cream I have ever had. Good job, White Mountain.
(5)John E.
Great selection of ice cream flavors and friendly staff! The selection is amazing.
(4)Roberta D.
Holy deliciousness. Absolutely amazing. The cookie monster is literally to die for. So many options to choose from. I am definitely going to be returning in the future- I mean ice cream cakes and take home flavors too! I will definitely be gaining weight in the near future because of this place.
(5)Joshua A.
Delicious homemade ice cream! The best flavor is Cookie Monster. I always send friends and family here and I've been going here myself for over 3 years. Always friendly service, too.
(5)Robert M.
I went here with a friend for ice cream and man, was it good. There weren't too many flavors, which was fine, keep it short and simple. I had a chocolate chip ice cream with Reese's Peanut Butter Cup topping and let me tell you, they piled it on big time. For the price and the quality, this place is very good. The ice cream was smooth, rich and flavorful. I'm going as often as I can!
(4)Christine M.
Mmmmmmm! Can you say creamy in white mountain creamery! My favorite is the chocolate it is ultra chocolatey and yuuuummmmyyy! Never had a bad flavor an I love to take out of town guests here to show them that Massachusetts has the BEST ice cream around. Also we like to get some to take home cause you WILL want more later!!! Get a vanilla and chocolate mix and make brownies at home with hot fudge or hot caramel with nuts!!! Then make sure you hit the gym or do an extra hike that week be ause you will need to work off those extra calories but once in a while even a health nut should treat themselves ;-)
(5)Amy S.
Ran to white mountain last night around 930. Place was still buzzing. It draws a nice mix of folks. Bc students to local older folks and families. Love the hot fudge(really hot) and real whipped cream. They always please
(4)Paige C.
afternoon work break confessing my creamy love i want you so bad I am really struggling with this review. This is not my favorite Ice Cream in the world, or even Boston, but I really like it here. The prices are right, they have a nice sized small, and the black raspberry chip I keep coming back to over and over. Like I said, even though this is not my favorite Ice Cream place in Boston, it may have my favorite ice cream.... Yep, I'm realizing it is true: WHITE MOUNTAIN, YOUR BLACK RASPBERRY CHIP IS MY FAVORITE ICE CREAM IN BOSTON (AND PROBABLY EVERRRRRRRR!!!) I also love the peanut butter topping, but not with the back raspberry (Moose Tracks instead).
(5)Gale S.
Post Eagle's Deli, I came here Friday night feeling like Gale circa 2007. Why not wash down a delicious brunch burger and fries with an ice cream cone? I have a tendency to compare all of my ice cream experiences to JP Licks. First impressions of my "cookie monster" (oreo and cookie dough ice cream) - LOTS OF CHUNKS +5 stars Base not quite as rich as JP vanilla -1 star Of course, a rich base might have been overwhelming in this cone. There were so many chunks that my boyfriend had difficulty finishing. He's a true ice cream lover, but for him, this was a dense dessert. My tolerance is a little higher (think your nine year old niece), so I thought it was perfect. A great shop in a great location.
(4)Marsha F.
Love that they have milk free options for my milk allergic kiddo
(5)Dave B.
This is everything that a New England ice cream parlor should be. Small batch ice cream, lots of flavors to choose from (from the classics to more adventurous with some flavors always changing), and huge portions (and even the small has two scoops so you can always have at least two flavors). Even the kids working here seem to be experts in ice cream...they know what a "cake cone" is and you don't have to explain to them what a "black & white" is. They make really good frappes here. Their black raspberry (a quintessential "New England" flavor) is excellent, but I wish they didn't add chocolate chips to it (ruins the texture, guys!).
(5)Tessa C.
I almost considered giving them a 4 because they are responsible for at least a 3 pound weight gain since I came to BC. Their selection is good, the whipped cream is handmade, the mustachioed gentleman who works there is always charming, and there is almost always an awkward first date happening which I love
(5)A Z.
Open until midnight? YES! Chock fulla BC students? ALSO YES! Oh well, the ice cream cookie sandwich was pretty good (shoulda heated the cookie though) and the raspberry lime Rickey was marvelous. The guy behind the counter (maybe the owner) was ridiculously helpful and nice. Good place.
(4)Chris C.
Great ice cream in a convenient location Boston location. The ice cream here is much better than anything JP Licks or Emack serves up although I still feel Christina's has the best ice cream in Boston. The ice cream is very creamy and smooth. The flavors I tasted were all very good and the amount of selections was pretty wide. The sizes were pretty generous and I can't imagine getting anything other than a small. The prices were also pretty fair which I imagine are kept low to not scare off the college kids. The store was pretty nice inside and had plenty of seating available with a handful of tables as well. The staff were friendly and cheerfully answered all the questions and offered tastes of flavors without issue. The only downside to this place was if you drove to it as the street parking is not very good in that area.
(5)Anthony C.
I had the Cookie Monster in a waffle bowl. It was a little bit of heaven! Cookie Monster is vanilla ice cream with Oreo and cookie dough. Yum! The ambience is okay but one does not go to an ice cream place for the ambience.
(5)Celina C.
Awesome Awesome ice-cream!! They give you a lot of ice-cream in small, and a ginormous amount in the medium. I would recommend trying the Jamaican rum with raisinets. Definitely a delectable combination that would send me running back for more :) There is just something about the friendly staff at ice cream places that just warms my soul. :]
(4)Audrey K.
I am not a huge fan of ice cream, I prefer water based italian ices and lighter frozen yogurt options, but this place was oh so good so goooood. With a long list of options and freshly made cones - I wouldn't mind a giantic scoop of this place anytime of day. I don't like the Cold Stones, Haagen Daazs, etc, but White Mountain Creamy is something else.
(4)Evie K.
Mint chocolate chip and coffee oreo are my favs. The fat content in the ice cream is high, so it makes it super delicious. Generous portions and nice service from the always smiling staff :)
(4)N S.
I absolutely love this place. I was in the market to try a new ice cream place and found this one on Yelp. I'm glad I did because their ice cream is absolutely the best thing I have ever experienced. You can taste the freshness. I always get the Cookie Monster which has massive chunks of fresh, real Oreo and cookie dough. You also taste the buttery goodness of the ice cream. It is unreal. And the prices are great for the portions. A small is more than enough to fill you, especially since the ingredients taste so rich. Love love love. I can never go back to store bought ice cream after experiencing this homemade goodness.
(5)Natasha N.
This was the best ice cream I've had in a long, long time. I had the chocolate mousse variety. The texture was creamy and ethereal, resembling gelato. The flavor was subtle and *clean*. Overall, a very fresh-tasting product - not gummy or icy or syrupy! The service was also excellent, especially considering the influx of BC students. The scooper did not have a scornful look on her face when I asked for a sample, and the cashier even helped hold down my receipt for me to sign as I balanced the top-heavy cone in my left hand. The size small, by the way, was on steroids, and yet I still left wishing I had gotten a medium!
(5)Amber N.
Delicious ice cream and they're open till midnight! Perfect for late night July ice cream cravings...
(5)Laura D.
Yum yum yum! I used to come here all the time during my college days, and I wish I could come as often as I used to. The ice cream cakes are so tasty, and great for birthdays. They have even introduced a mini ice cream cake, perfect for two. My favorite flavor is the coffee oreo. And I'm not even the biggest coffee fan. My husband loves the chocolate milkshake.
(5)Ali S.
Amazing. It's kind of hard to find your mom and pop type ice cream places in Boston, without hitting up a chain, but this is a gem! DELICIOUS ice cream. Generous servings and nice staff. Great flavors and toppings. Just good old fashioned ice cream! Will be coming back a lot more then I should.
(5)Garrett E.
Whats not to love about an Ice Cream joint. Well for the White Mountain Creamery its hard to find fault. Maybe a little high in price but given the quality of ice cream I am going to excuse it. Plus the are ultra generous on the toppings. My hot fudge was spilling over the cup it was almost too much (is that even possible)? My standing order when I would go would be for the Cake Batter topped with Hot Fudge. Honestly I have not been back in a while because it can be quite the waistline buster. Situated right next to BC, expect to be randomly inundated with students from time to time.
(5)Courtney B.
The late great MJ's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" pops into my mind when I think of White Mountain. I could have it everyday. I have an addiction, a really bad one, to ice cream. And seriously, White Mountain is the best ice cream in this area (other than Brigham's but that is a whole different story). If you haven't gone, then, well, you need to go. Best flavor = coffee oreo. Must try.
(5)Eric L.
One thing that I like about New England is that almost Every New England locale has its own mom and pop ice cream shop. White Mountain Creamery is the local shop next to the T stop at the end of the Green Line/B Line across from St. Ignatius Church and Boston College Lower Campus . When I'm in the area, I always think of stopping here for a cone or a cup or a sundae. WMC has a good selection of creamy and chunky flavors that are, well, creamy and flavorful. There's plenty to choose from on their standard menu and rotating/seasonal specials. I consider their portions to be generous for the sizes of their scoops and amount of toppings per serving. They don't hoard their napkins and utensils behind the counter forcing messy eaters to beg for extras. There's room inside to sit, eat, socialize and people-watch. If you're taking it to go, they use insulated paper bags that should keep your ice cream chilled longer than an ordinary paper bag. When I asked for a Coffee Oreo hot fudge sundae with no nuts, the guy behind the counter offered me an additional topping since it would cost the same anyway. On a snowy January day, I had a Cinnamon Oreo Cookie in a cone with Jimmies for myself.
(4)Michael L.
Right on the edge of the BC campus. Open year round and often open until 11pm or later. The ice cream is very rich and flavorful - but also heavy, so be careful how much you order. A little expensive for ice cream, but not too bad. They don't have as many crazy new flavors as a Ben & Jerry's or JP Licks because they don't seem to experiment quite as much. The classics are all well represented though. Bonus: good chance you'll be served by a cute BC girl.
(4)Cece K.
Homemade ice cream... you can't really mess that up. I had a scoop of the butterfinger and a scoop of the cookie monster. Both were crazy good (but in full disclosure, I am an ice cream fanatic). The ice cream was super creamy, and they had so many options to choose from... I couldn't imagine any of them tasting bad. Only downside: the waffle cone was not great. It was very hard and a little too crunchy (like almost break your tooth crunchy...not the good kind of crunchy). It wasn't the usual fluffy, light, crisp waffle cone... but perhaps it was a bad batch. Either way, the ice cream more than made up for it.
(4)Jamie G.
Very delicious homemade ice cream. Almost tastes like custard because it is nice and creamy and soft. I got two scoops, one oreo cake batter and one cookie dough. Both were very good. They had waffle bowls, and next time I will definitely try one. And one scoop is really more than enough.. it's very filling. Not too expensive. Kind of tricky to find parking off commonwealth. Cute inside, mostly college kids, cute tables and board games and stuff. SOOOOO much better than JP Licks and the like, will definitely be frequently this joint more often!
(5)Karlis B.
I love ice cream. It's not even a "guilty pleasure." I just LOVE the stuff. Not even to like have sex with it cuz that's just messy. But enough to stuff my belly with it. So when I don't even finish a small ice cream, something's not right. I went to White Mountain just yesterday and was disappointed. OK, maybe not disappointed because I never heard of the place before then, so I wasn't expecting anything. I just wasn't satisfied. There! I ordered the Sweet Cream ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. Sprinkles were awesome as always even though they look like little hamster shits. But oh WM Sweet Cream flavor! Why did you taste so watered down? Why did I feel like i was licking frozen low-fat milk? WM Sweet Cream, I do not love you. I cheated on my favorite JP Licks Sweet Cream flavor and I realized I made a mistake. JPL is my true love and we really share something special when it's topped with Fruity Pebbles (which needs to be a topping option everywhere). WM Sweet Cream, I'm ending this affair. Please do not try to talk to me. It's over. Also adding to this whole unsatisfying experience was the fact that my receipt was a ripped piece of paper with the price and signature line drawn on with ballpoint pen. Not the normal procedure, though. Receipt machine was all jacked up for a minute...I'm gonna go check my account's recent activity, now.
(2)Daniel R.
The sweet cream here is incredible! So simple, so good, not just a base anymore.
(5)RIMA A.
it's near my kids school, so we go there very often the ice cream is very good plus they have a lot of different flavors the only problem they have that they are under staff and sometimes the line is out the door and moves very slow.
(4)Garth S.
Wholesome high school and BC students man the counter. Multigenerational families stop in for dessert. Some months ago, I saw what must have been a fourteen-year-old's first date: all awkwardness, braces, and hormones. The ice cream itself is deliciousness in a cone. Best of all, there's no corporate attitude. For a chain, albeit a small one, White Mountain Creamery feels an awful lot like the local ice cream parlor. Lick your heart out Cold Stone!
(5)Tessa M.
I love that this place is open until midnight!!!! It is so convenient when I am craving a late night snack; the perfect snack, of course, being ice cream. The first time I came here I got the pumpkin ice cream which was super creamy and really good. The second time I ordered a scoop of the coffee on a sugar cone. The scoop was huge, yet, the server placed it on the cone in a way so that it didn't drip over the edge and soak my hands. The ice cream itself was like eating a cloud-it was light, creamy, and flavorful. Definitely will be visiting this place a lot!
(5)Crystal G.
Just okay, their peach ice cream was pretty good but as with other Boston ice cream shops this place was overpriced! Okay if you live in the area, but not worth my drive. Cabots in Newton still takes the cake, er, cone.
(3)Kyla B.
The ice cream is just darn right good and that is all that matters!
(5)Amie R.
Steps from the BC T stop, this is a great little ice cream place! I went around 8pm and there was no line -- it was also not during any sort of BC orientation, either, which I think would change things. They're open till midnight most nights it seems though, which rocks!! They had a decent number of flavors, but honestly not as many as I'd expected. Lots of toppings, though! I had a Strawberry frozen yogurt with chocolate chips -- a medium was under $4. Nice and clean, there were a number of wooden chairs and tables, as well as counter seating along one wall.
(3)Sarah M.
Awesome ice-cream, frozen yogurt and sever plus their mini ice-cream are a bit pricey but yummy and so adorable to bring to a dinner party or just for fun with a friend or your family. Owner is so nice and enthusiastic. Love that they have games and that the place hasn't changed for 10 years. All natural goodness and their toppings are piled on. My fav ice-cream shop in Boston area.
(5)Brian S.
A fine ice cream shop across the street from Boston College. I'd take them over JP Licks or Coldstone any day. First off, the ice cream is just great. Nothing to complain about, and they do a fantastic job with mix-in's and sundaes, etc. Also, the make the best Rasberry Lime Rickey in town. The best thing, though, is the experience. Its a spacious store-front, unlike pretty much every other ice cream shop I've been in. It'll still get packed, but its got way more room than the local chains. And frankly, it just feels more inviting. It doesn't have the trampled upon feel of a JP Licks or the corporate sanitized feel of Coldstone. It gets it just right. It feels like an independant business where you'll just feel more welcomed. The whole experience just makes you happy and that's what an ice cream parlor should do.
(5)Travis D.
Delicious and close. This place is right across from BC and right down the street from my apt. They have a bunch of delicious flavors and combos but run a little pricey. I got a hot fudge sundae and what it lacked in size it made up for in taste. The ice cream, fudge, and whipped cream were all spot on and I believe homemade. It was definitely a tasty treat and took care of the sweet tooth. I would definitely stop in and try their flavors especially on a nice hot summer night.

I went here on the day I first saw BC about three weeks ago. Also on the day I fell in love with BC's School of Theology & Ministry after touring the campus, and decided that there was no place else I would like to spend the next two years of my life! What a great way to celebrate- with sweet cream and oreo ice cream! (And guess what? I got in! Now I can happily gain five pounds while consuming more ice cream for the next few years! Woohoo!)

How do I define heaven? Coffee oreo ice cream with rainbow Jimmies from White Mountain Creamery.

Located in a tough to find parking area but on Sunday no problem and easy to spot located right by the T across from BC. Some really good flavors to choose from I had death by chocolate and cake batter both real good and i have to recommend the death by chocolate excellent job! $4 gets you a nice sized meduim cup of ice cream for this part of the city thats a decent price. Quality of ice cream is high and the oreo and other add on ingredients were generous. Customer service friendly and a place where you can sit down and eat get some water and just enjoy. Overall really good experience I would give them a 4.5 if I could. I def would recommend going here def one of the better or among the best I have had in a while.

I used to work here, and you're allowed to bring home a large each shift, so believe me, I've had a lot of the ice cream here. The place is totally family-run by a Greek family, Nick is the owner and Peter is the manager. They make all of their ice cream right there in the store. This is some of the best ice cream around, and I really miss it! My favorite regular flavors were cookie dough, oreo, and coffee oreo. My favorite specials were butter pecan and MINT OREO. Oh my how I miss the mint oreo. There's lots of toppings to choose from, and the specials rotate, so there's always something new. Mmm I miss the creamy deliciousness that is White Mountain...

White Mountain Creamery is one of the best ice cream places I have ever been. I've been going there since I was a baby, and it is still the same. Great location, right across from BC and next to the T stop. There are tons of places to sit, and they set out board games so people can hang out & relax. Also, there is a water dispenser so you can get free water after wards, if your ice cream makes you thirsty! Soo very good, highly recommended. :] UPDATE! I went after class the other night and got the Banana Oreo flavor. Oh my gosh, so good! I think it was a special, and I did also notice they had the apple pie flavor already. Just FYI.

I actually walk an extra 10 minutes PAST a Cold Stone Creamery to enjoy the yummy goodness that is White Mountain. It's a great little ice cream parlor with yummy flavors and toppings. Usually I grab a cup to go and walk across Comm Ave to sit on a bench on BC's campus, but you could make an evening sitting inside playing the classic board games available to customers. My boyfriend has White Mountain's number programmed in his cell phone so he can call and ask if the Apple Pie ice cream is available (they only serve it in the fall). You might say we're a little obsessed but who can blame us when the ice cream is this good? It can get pretty crowded once the students are back in town, but the line moves quickly. I recommend trying White Mountain for the first time in the summer before the BC-ers get back.

They have an awesome sundae . A great place to take the kids before a B.C. sporting event! Great for college students too! A bit pricey but hey its Chestnut Hill...get used to it :P The size of the dish and quality of the ice cream makes up for the price! Conveniently located on Comm Ave. at the Boston College Gate next to the B.C. B Line train stop (end of the line)(GReen Line B line) To sum it up five words--- YUM YUM YUM YUMMY YUM!

House made ice cream with only local cream? Yes! Sadly, the actual Ice Cream doesn't always taste that great. Of the Ice creams, I've only tried the chocolate mousse, which was quite flavorless and bad, and the death by chocolate, which is a solid rendition of the intense chocolate flavor at most parlors. I looked around at their frozen yogurt menu, checked out the nonfat soft serve list and saw peanut butter?! that's an alarm right there. How can peanut butter ever be nonfat? Then I looked at the machines and the one with peanut butter was labeled low fat. Phew. Still didn't buy it though (I eat peanut butter soft serve yogurt too freaking much). I tried the coffee heath hard yogurt. There are several flavors that work great with frozen yogurt, maybe even better than ice cream. A lot of fruit flavors like rasberry, blueberry, flavors that are inherently rich like oreo, and then there's coffee, which if intense enough, is perfectly tasty without the lingering cream fat on your tongue. The coffee flavor is pretty bland here. Not nearly aromatic or bitter enough, but the heath bar is such a great match for coffee ice cream. Coffee and chocolate toffee makes so much sense. Screw coffee oreo. The hard yogurt was very good as far as hard yogurts go, and next time I'll be sure to try the black rasberry, but the Ice Cream while not bad, isn't all that great. It's not exceptionally rich, and its flavors aren't particularly oustanding. The chocolate mousse for instance, was just a standard, weak chocolate that really wasn't better than something I could get at the supermarket.

This is a great little shop. I think their product is great stuff. Tasty, creamy, not overpoweringly sweet..I admit that there is a chance I might favor this place over almost all other shops simply because back when there was one of these on the BU Comm. Ave stretch when I was a student there, I would be there often often often..and once walked in with a buddy to find the place packed, wall-to-wall with some BU sorority..that was quite a scene. I love their Sweet Cream ice cream. They don't have the creativity of a Christina's or a Toscannini's, but the flavors they do make are always consistantly top level.

This is my favorite ice cream shop in Boston. Lots of great flavors to chose from (not a million but enough that there is something for everyone), the frozen yogurt is excellent, there are plenty of places to sit, it's open late, and it's right by the T. I wouldn't try to drive here during the day or during a BC game but on a "regular" night I've never had a problem finding parking. My favorite is the purple cow frozen yogurt.

Get the Black Raspberry Chip. p.s. this place has got 5 star ice cream -- but gets a star knocked off because Peter (the owner) has jacked up the prices in recent years

What a find! Tasty, creative homemade ice cream and very yummy homemade waffle cones. Prices are reasonable, and children are definitely welcome (several highchairs). The inside is so homey, you really could think you were in Vermont.

Have to agree with all the other positive reviews. The staff are always friendly, cheerful, patient when you can't decide which yummy flavor to choose. Service is always fast and the environment is clean and wholesome. They have water for you to drink; all the napkins you could need and benches outside for people watching and did I mention the delicious ice cream? A great destination that is never overwhelming, even if there is a short wait. Rich ice cream - beats 3 scoops and Richardsons any day. Happy licking!

This is seriously the only place that makes fat-free frozen yogurt taste like ice-creamy goodness. I don't care that there are annoying BC students (and that's coming from someone that HATES BC students) I still love this place. I can take a little stroll down commonwealth ave and get some nom nom ice cream. The only thing that pisses me off is when there is NO freakin B line in sight and it some how still manages to beat me. (I'm lazy and would take the T one stop to get to the ice cream faster)

Good, homemade ice cream. What else is there to say?

white mountain would be great even if they weren't open until midnight, but it's really great to head down for a late night snack. all of their ice cream is great (so is the frozen yogurt!) and they always have a lot of choices. my favorite happens to be peanut butter oreo...they don't always have it, but it is a must have when they do. the folks who work there are really nice, and it's a great place to sit (you can play board games).

Best ice cream in Boston, particularly the mint chocolate chip. 'nuff said. Be careful on weekday nights in the summer, if freshman orientation is happening at BC across the street, the line will be out the door.

Very good ice cream. Lots of flavors with lots of presentation options (cup, cone, waffle cone, frappe, frappe float, sundae, etc.) Lots of seating. My favourite local ice cream shop.

At the end of the "B" line this place draws in the BC kids, but they offer good ice cream especially seasonal ones; I love the pumpkin!
